Digital Dermoscopy

Digital dermoscopy is a painless non-hazardous procedure by which mainly pigmented skin lesions can be judged. We use this microscopic magnification procedure whenever we need to assess pigmented skin areas. They help deciding if a lesion is benign or suspicious.

Digital dermoscopy is performed with a handheld microscope that produces digital images. This method is used when it is not appropriate to remove a pigmented lesion immediately, but to keep a close eye on how it develops.

Pigmented skin lesions that are not changing over time are less suspicious. Digital dermoscopy allows visualizing and documenting relevant changes in pigmented lesions.

Since there are many people who have a large numbers of suspicious pigmented moles, which, when removed, may often be benign, digital dermoscopy is helpful in picking out "the bad guys".
