Botox®
Botox® is a highly effective drug that can selectively and temporarily block nerve impulses to a mimic muscle and thereby improve facial mimic wrinkles.
Mimic wrinkles occur mainly as laugh lines, ‘anger’ and forehead wrinkles; they are caused by the repeated contraction of certain facial muscles. The active ingredient of Botox® inhibits impulse transmission between nerve endings and muscles so that they are relaxed. The requirements to achieve a harmonious and symmetrical Botox® result are the long experience of the physician as well as extensive knowledge of the structure of muscle in the facial area. Our qualified team of doctors headed by PD Dr René Rüdlinger meets these requirements and can therefore guarantee the best possible care and treatment.

How it works
Botox® — also known as botulinum toxin — has been used for more than 20 years for medical purposes. Botox® acts by temporarily blocking nerve signals to muscles.
When applied correctly, the application of Botox® has remarkably little sideeffects. Facial mimic wrinkles deteriorate during the ageing process due to the mimic muscles gradually becoming unable to fully relax. With Botox®, something can be done about these facial wrinkles without having to undergo surgery.
Botox can also be used for the treatment of excessive sweating — known as hyperhidrosis — on the hands and armpits.
The procedure
Treatments with Botox® are performed on an outpatient basis. Before each treatment, the condition of the facial musculature, and hence the wrinkling, is photographically documented. Subsequently, the drug is applied with a very fine needle and injected into the mimic musculature. The injection is almost painless. Rarely do people ask for the application of a topical anaesthetic cream. Immediately after a Botox® treatment normal activity can be resumed. The full effect of Botox® is reached after 14 days. After this period a free consultation, and the possibility of a small correction follows.
In general, the effect of Botox® individually wears off after three to six months, after which a brush-up treatment will be necessary.
Side effects
Botox® treatments are generally well tolerated and side effects are only temporary. It can very rarely cause headaches, and possibly minor pain, swelling or redness at the injection sites, but this disappears within 24 hours. Rarely there may be some bruising which can be covered cosmetically.
