Cosmeceuticals

What is a Cosmeceutical?
Cosmeceuticals are medical substances with a defined effect on our skin, and thereby improve the appearance of our skin. An optimal skin care today includes the use of cosmeceuticals. We advise you accordingly and offer treatments with products whose effect is scientifically proven.

Apart from the many cosmetic substances, there are two major groups of cosmeceuticals that are used alone or in combination: retinoids and vitamin C.

An optimal skin care program includes the application of these two groups of substances.

Retinoids
Retinoids are a group of substances that are derived from vitamin A. They play a key role in the metabolism of the skin. The epidermis renews itself every four weeks. Retinoids drive the normal development of epidermal cells. Ageing and excessive UV-exposure mainly result in a lack of retinoids in the skin. The consequences are dull and dry skin as well as wrinkles.
Vitamin A acid and its less irritating form retinaldehyde therefore contribute significantly to the improvement of our skin.
The treated skin looses less moisture, the renewal of the skin is enhanced and wrinkles are improved by stimulation of the collagen fibers.

Vitamin C
For a long time it was unclear whether vitamin C applied to the skin has an effect at all. Today it's scientifically proven beyond doubt that vitamin C exerts anti-oxidative properties and stimulates collagen, thus makes our skin healthier and improves fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C, applied topically, is prone to be degenerated and loose it's effectiveness in many comercially available topicals. Considerable research was necessary to stabilize vitamin C and thus guarantee its effectiveness.

At causa dermis, we have opted for a vitamin C product in the form of a serum (SkinCeuticals ®). Its effect is scientifically proven and can easily be integrated into the daily care routine: This product can also be well-combined with retinoids.
