How does it work?

Laser-epilation works for dark hair only. According to your skin type we will use an Alexandrite-Laser or, for darker sin types a long pulsed Neodymium-YAG-Laser. The laser light penetrates the skin, is absorbed by the brown pigment of skin and hair (Melanine), transformed into heat, which diffuses into the zone of the hair-growth and hampers regrowing of the hair.

Intense pulsed light, or  IPL technique, which is also offered by cosmeticians or in home-based devices is neither more effective nor less painful than laser treatments. In our centre we can offer you know-how in all these technologies.

The treatment

Successful Laser-epilationsare serial treatments and have a long-lasting effect after 4-6 treatments. Depending on the area of the body and individual disposition typically 4-6 treatments are needed to achieve a permanent reduction of 80% of the hair. The initial consult is the basis for an effective treatment. Prior to treatment we take photographs, the hair is shaved, sometimes a numbing cream is applied, and then the laser treatment is performed. To maintain the favourable effect you may need brus-up treatments form time to time.

Side effects and other information

Immediately after the treatment your skin maybe red or slightly swollen. This will resolve during the day. Laser-epilation must not be performed if you have a tan. Tanned skin tends to superficially burn in the process. This is the reason why autumn-winter- and spring are good seasons to start a treatment. Refrain from sun- or sunbed-tanning at least 4 weeks before treatments.
From a scientific point-of-view there is no 100% permanent hair reduction. The managment of epilation though, is greatly improved. After each treatment you will experience a complete growth-stop for some weeks or even months. Typically laser treated areas show finer and lighter hair growth also. Laser epilation is more effective in coarse than in fine hair. There is a 2-4% percentage of people in whom - for unknown reasons - there is no permanent, only temporary hair reduction
