How it works
to treat broken vessels we use a pulsed laser of the latest generation (Cynergy Multiplex). The energy of this laser is preferably absorbed by the red blood pigment haemoglobin. The laser light heats up haemoglobin, thereby closing the dilated blood vessels.
The treatment
Laser-treatment of dilated blood vessel is an out-patient procedure and takes only about half an hour. It's typically performed without anaesthesia. In some cases a single treatment is sufficient, but more often a series of 4-6 treatments are necessary.
Side effects and more information
Because there is heat involved, laser-treatments of dilated blood vessels are not entirely painless but they are usually well tolerated, because during the procedure the skin is continuously cooled with air. Typical side-effects include light to moderate swelling, redness immediately after the laser treatment. They subside within a short time. In tanned skin, it is also possible that the treated areas can form crusting followed by a bleached area. Therefore it is advisable to start treatment at a time when the skin is not tanned. In-between treatments, sunbathing and sun parlour visits are not recommended. Blood vessels that are successfully laser-treated are gone for good. New dilated vessels can develop later on. They are amenable to brush up treatments
Contrary to popular belief, small and very small vessels are more difficult to treat than larger ones. They need short laser pulses and high energies which often can lead to bruising.
