Seborrheic Keratoses
So-called seborrheic keratoses are benign growths of the skin. They are not necessarily a sign of the aging process, although seborrheic keratoses are encountered in many elderly people.
"Seborrheic" has to do with sebaceous glands. It turns out that this nomenclature is wrong, because seborrheic glands are not involved in seborrheic keratoses.
Seborrheic keratoses appear in many different forms: from flat and skin coloured to very prominent growths with a brown or black colour.
Seborrheic keratoses can be left alone. If they bother for mechanical or much more common for aesthetic reasons, there are several possibilities to remove them. They can be curetted, frozen, dermabraded or lased. According to our own experience an ablative laser-treatment gives the best cosmetic result. This is why we will often recommend this type of treatment.
