Lasers and Acne

Acne-treatment with a Diode-laser (Smoothbeam®) are a helpful tool in adult-type acne with inflammatory lesions. Since this type of laser also stimulates collagen, acne scars are also improving.

Laser-treatments of acne and acne scars are usually not paid for by health insurance.

This infrared laser-light reduces inflammation of sebaceous glands, the site of acne. At the same time collagen remodelling is induced which leads to improvement of skin' texture and reduces scarring.

Smoothbeam® treatments are mostly serial treatments of 4-10 sessions in monthly intervals. There is usually no down-time after a treatment.

How is the Treatment performed and what are possible Side Effects?

First, the area of the skin to be treated is numbed with an anaesthetising cream. After the treatment, your skin will be slightly red. You may wear make-up immediately after the treatment. Rarely the laser treatment will lead to crusting and pigment alteration, especially in darker skin patients.
